Balcony Person Challenge

Be a Balcony Person: Lifting Others Up for the Kingdom

In a world where competition often takes center stage, we as followers of Christ are called to something greater. We are called to be "balcony people"—people who lift others up, encourage one another, and cheer each other on in faith. Instead of being in competition with other churches, we should be united as a community for the Kingdom of God. Our goal is not to outshine one another but to be a city on a hill, radiating the love of Jesus to all who seek Him.

Encouraging One Another in Faith

The Apostle Paul urges us in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” This is the heart of being a balcony person—speaking words of life, lifting others in prayer, and offering support when they need it most.

Similarly, Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” When we come together as the Body of Christ, we should be about uplifting, not competing.

A City on a Hill

Jesus Himself calls us to shine brightly for His glory in Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

As churches, ministries, and individual believers, we should be working together to illuminate the path to Christ. It is not about whose church is bigger or better—it is about bringing more souls into the Kingdom. We shine the brightest when we lift each other up instead of tearing each other down.

Serving and Strengthening the Body of Christ

Being a balcony person is not just about words—it’s about action. Galatians 6:9-10 encourages us: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

If you already have a church home, my challenge for you is this: go, serve, and lift people up. Get involved in ministry, encourage your pastors, support your fellow believers, and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

If you don’t have a church home, I invite you to come and worship with us at Zoar Methodist. We would love to walk alongside you in faith, encourage you in your spiritual journey, and help you grow in your relationship with Christ.

Let’s Be Balcony People

Let’s choose to be people who lift others higher, who encourage instead of competing, who serve instead of butting heads against one another. Together, as one body in Christ, let’s be that city on a hill, shining brightly and drawing others to Jesus.

Will you take the challenge? Will you commit to being a balcony person today? Let's make Chesterfield, Cheraw, South Carolin, USA, and world the best it can be for His glory.
